TAKE OFF YOUR CLOTHES
Take Off Your Clothes is a sound installation that doubles as a social experiment, inviting listeners into an intimate world of vulnerability, anonymity, and confession. The piece is constructed from a series of anonymously submitted secrets, gathered from members of the public through an open call. These confessions—ranging from the deeply personal to the quietly humorous—form the core sonic material of the work.
Voiced by performers and processed through layered, abstracted sound design to preserve anonymity, the installation creates a shifting soundscape where private truths echo within a shared public space. At the heart of the experience lies the childlike wonder of a tin can telephone, through which audience members can hear a direct line of secrets if they choose to listen in. This moment of playful intimacy cuts through the surrounding cacophony of layered voices, amplifying the delicate nature of each whispered revelation.
A pile of clothes, donated by the secret-givers themselves, sits quietly within the space. The title, Take Off Your Clothes, speaks to the emotional undressing that occurs in the act of confession, while also playfully nodding to the vulnerability of being seen, and heard, without armor.
This work sits at the intersection of sound art, performance, and social commentary, questioning how we present ourselves to others, and what we choose to hide.
