UNTITLED (LOVE)

Untitled (Love) is a short experimental film inspired by Félix González-Torres’ Untitled (Perfect Lovers). While González-Torres’ work presents a poetic meditation on love, time, and fragility through the quiet symbolism of two synchronized clocks, Untitled (Love) reinterprets these themes through embodied performance and cinematic abstraction.

Told entirely through the interaction of two hands, the film explores the complexities of intimacy, communication, and dissonance. Using only gesture and touch, the piece unravels a layered emotional narrative without dialogue or facial expression. Experimental editing and rich, shifting color palettes deepen the sensory experience, echoing the tension and harmony between the characters.

At its core, Untitled (Love) is a meditation on presence and absence, on the beauty and impermanence of shared time, much like González-Torres’ iconic work, but reimagined through motion, improvisation, and visual rhythm.

Sound plays an integral role in the film’s emotional and narrative fabric. The piece was accompanied by a live scoring conducted and semi-composed by Lucia Dwyer, blending structure with spontaneity. Performed by a full digital ensemble —Jonathan Crean, Paul Clifford, Kevin Saunderson, and Conor Bourgal— the score is a sonic improvisation of created and collected sounds. This sonic landscape evolves in response to the visual gestures, creating an intimate dialogue between movement and music that amplifies the film’s exploration of love, fragility, and connection.

Untitled (love) premiered at CineSalon Experimental Film Festival 2024.
